Collins

Collins, the 18th overall pick in the 2001 NBA Draft, passed away due to stage 4 glioblastoma, one of the deadliest forms of brain cancer. He played 13 seasons for eight teams, including eight as a member of the Nets. Collins, who entered the league the same year as his twin Jarron, was the first active, openly gay player to play in the NBA and remains the only one. One of Collins’ roles in his post-NBA career was serving as an NBA Cares Ambassador.

The sides are talking, and optimistic about coming to an agreement.

Collins could return shortly, as the Nets lack depth up front.

He’s listed as a gametime decision tonight. The Nets can’t afford any injuries to their big men.

Collins shouldn’t miss any time.

Collins hyper-extended his right knee Saturday in Milwaukee but missed practice yesterday with illness. He’s currently day-to-day. Since Aaron Williams is also hurting, Kenyon Martin (banged up himself) could make his first career start at center.

Collins has a sprained left big toe that knocked him out of Sunday’s game. He received ice and electrical stimulation treatment yesterday.

If Collins can’t play, Aaron Williams will receive plenty of playing time at center.
