Celtics signed head coach Joe Mazzulla to a multi-year contract extension.
After three successful seasons as the Celtics’ head coach, Mazzulla has been rewarded with a multi-year extension. While his job was not in any danger, the coach receives added security ahead of what’s expected to be a “bridge year” for the Celtics as they await Jayson Tatum’s return from a ruptured Achilles tendon. In three seasons at the helm, Mazzulla, who began as the interim head coach after Ime Udoka’s suspension ahead of the 2022-23 season, has led the Celtics to 182 regular-season wins and the 2024 NBA title.

Celtics GM Brad Stevens tells reporters Thursday that Joe Mazzulla will return as Celtics head coach next season.
It looks like the Celtics will be sticking with Mazzulla even after a rather embarrassing showing in the Eastern Conference Finals. If Mazzulla would have gotten the axe the Celtics would have then been searching for their fourth head coach in four years. Mazzulla took over on an interim basis for Ime Udoka a few weeks before the start of the regular season. The interim tag was removed in February as Joe would lead Boston to a 57-25 regular season record.

The Boston Celtics have removed the interim tag from Joe Mazzulla making him the 19th head coach in franchise history.
Well it’s official, Joe Mazzulla is officially the captain now. The Celtics announced Thursday morning that Mazzulla will become its full-time coach as the two parties have also agreed upon a contract extension. Mazzulla, who took over after Ime Udoka was suspended indefinitely in September, has led Boston to the best record in the NBA at 42-17. Mazzulla was also named NBA All-Star head coach on Jan. 30 and will coach Team Giannis in Salt Lake City.
