With the Brooklyn Nets in a tailspin, it’s logical to think Kevin Garnett may seek a buyout to join a contender in what is likely his final year in the NBA. Not so, according to the future Hall of Famer.
Garnett is well past his prime as a player at age 38, but he would draw no shortage of interest as a veteran presence in the frontcourt if he were to hit the market. The Clippers are one obvious destination, given the history Garnett has with Doc Rivers from their days together with the Celtics, which included a championship in 2008.

But Garnett says he doesn’t want a buyout on the $12 million he’s currently owed. This is the last year of his contract, and he’s in his 20th season in the NBA. It would be a shock if he didn’t retire. Even if it meant a chance at winning, it’s hard to imagine someone Garnett’s age agreeing to a change like that in the middle of the season.
