One way or another, the dominant narrative from the Celtics’ 113-109 win over the Pistons on Monday was going to be Boston’s fourth quarter.
The story told: Isaiah Thomas continued his modern-era-record-breaking fourth quarter onslaught, scoring 24 of his 41 points in the final period.
But perhaps, with correct officiating down the stretch, the story would’ve been the Celtics blowing an 11-point lead in the final 10 minutes.
Boston forward Jonas Jerebko got away with a loose-ball foul of Jon Leuer with the Celtics up two and 45.1 seconds left, according to the NBA’s Last Two Minute Report:
Because Boston was in the penalty, a correct call would’ve given Leuer -- who’s shooting 89% from the line this season and 75% for his career -- two free throws to tie the game.
Instead, the Celtics grabbed the defensive rebound and still led by two when Detroit began intentionally fouling.
