After interim coach Melvin Hunt lingered as a favorite for the permanent job, the Nuggets finally seem to have gotten their coaching search going.

They’ve reportedly spoken with Mike D’Antoni and Michael Malone.

Next up? Maybe Clippers assistant Mike Woodson.

Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe:

Woodson has proven himself a quality assistant coach. That and his head-coaching experience will put him in the mix for vacancies.

Then teams will investigate Woodson’s tenures with the Hawks and Knicks. They’ll find plenty of shortcomings – especially defensively, where Woodson’s reputation is stronger. But they also won’t find anything that eliminates him from consideration for the next opening.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Woodson becomes an NBA head coach again. I’d be surprised if he gets this job.
