Magnum Rolle has been waived by the Hawks.
Rolle was never considered a favorite to make the final roster. The team also waived Pape Sy and Brad Wanamaker.
  • BOS Point Guard
Beat writer Michael Cunningham wrote Saturday that free agent Carlos Arroyo could be a good “stop-gap solution” to the Hawks’ backup PG position.
Inexperienced second-year backup Pape Sy and point forward Tracy McGrady will be used while Kirk Hinrich is out, but the Hawks could certainly use some veteran help early in the year. As long as Jeff Teague doesn’t totally face-plant, he will get all the minutes he can handle indefinitely.
  • ATL Point Guard
Pape Sy, who was last seen playing in France, is back with the Hawks and will likely be Jeff Teague’s back up at point guard while Kirk Hinrich is injured.
Sy is unproven and a longshot to have any fantasy value. But if Teague somehow struggles, he could get some run. Just keep an eye on him early in the season.
  • ATL Point Guard
Pape Sy will return to his French team if he doesn’t get a contract in the NBA by January 13.
Sy was waived by Atlanta just before the season began and hasn’t garnered much interest on the open market yet. He’ll wait to see if an injury opens an opportunity with another club, but it sounds like he’s headed back to France at this time.
  • ATL Point Guard
Pape Sy is on his way back to France and will sign with Gravelines-Dunkerque.
This was an expected move and Sy will return to playing professionally in France. It’s possible he could earn himself a training camp invite next year if he shows out well.
  • ATL Point Guard
Pape Sy is expected to play for the Hawks during Summer League.
Sy is built like an NBA swingman (6'6", 210 lbs.) but he plays like a combo guard and has limited offensive skills. He struggled in both the D-League and France last season and we don’t expect him to make the Hawks’ regular season roster. Their decision to draft him No. 53 overall in 2010 was strange, and their decision to buy out his French contract and sign him in 2011 was even stranger.
  • ATL Point Guard
Haws G Pape Sy (back) worked out on the court Monday for the first time since the start of camp.
Sy is a major project that won’t be part of the Hawks’ rotation this year. He could eventually have a role down the line if Jamal Crawford is allowed to walk in free agency.
  • ATL Point Guard
The Hawks are trying to get second-round SF Pape Sy in Atlanta for training camp.
Sy is trying to get a buyout from his French League team this week. The Hawks would probably like to see him develop in the NBADL.
  • ATL Point Guard
Pape Sy, who has been out since the beginning of training camp with a back injury, said he still doesn’t know when he’ll return to practice.
“It’s sore,” he said. “It’s getting better.” He’s buried on the depth chart and could have a future in the league, it just won’t be this year. He should not be rostered in any re-draft leagues.
  • ATL Point Guard
Pape Sy could be sent to the NBADL soon, according to coach Larry Drew.
Sy is a raw prospect from France that needs minutes. The second-round pick is yet to appear in a game this season.
