LSU LB Ali Highsmith ran a 4.70, a 4.72, and a 4.87 in the forty-yard dash at the Tigers’ Pro Day Wednesday.

Highsmith just doesn’t time well. He also measured in at a defensive back-esque 6'0/221. His vertical was only 29", though he did bench 225 23 times. Highsmith will likely be a late pick in April, if he’s picked at all.

Highsmith would project to inside linebacker in Arizona’s 3-4 scheme. It’s not a bad fit because of his lack of speed, but he’s very undersized at 6'1/228.

Draft analyst Charles Davis said on the NFL Network that he heard LSU LB Ali Highsmith was “a little dinged up” during Combine weekend.

Davis is a noted SEC loyalist, but it sounds right that Highsmith was at less than 100%. Projected to run his forty in the 4.5-4.6 range, Highsmith turned in a startlingy slow 5.0. He may need to meet expectations at the Tigers’ Pro Day to avoid being this year’s Earl Everett.

Free agent LB Ali Highsmith was arrested in Baton Rouge late last week on marijuana possession charges.

Highsmith allowed police to search his home, and they discovered two pounds of marijuana in the former LSU star’s refrigerator. The estimated street value of the drugs was $23,000-$24,000. Naturally, he was also booked for “intent to distribute.” We may not see Highsmith in the NFL again.
