Johnnie Lee Higgins is reportedly the best bet to open the season as the Raiders No. 3 receiver.
Todd Watkins may have earned the No. 4 job with a strong camp while Chaz Schilens may be the favorite for the No. 5 job. Rookie Arman Shields (knee, hamstring) is in danger of being placed on injured reserve or the practice squad. This could be the worst bench in the league.
  • LV Wide Receiver
Raiders signed fourth-round WR Arman Shields to a multi-year contract.
Shields missed most spring practices with nagging lower-body injuries, but should be healthy by now. We don’t have high hopes for him in the league.
  • LV Wide Receiver
Raiders rookie WR Arman Shields has missed three straight practices with a knee injury.
No surprise. Shields missed all but one game of his senior season with a torn knee ligament. He was a typical boom-or-bust, “measurables” pick by owner Al Davis and may not make the 53-man roster if he can’t get healthy.
  • LV Wide Receiver
Raiders rookie WR Arman Shields is now missing time at minicamps due to a hamstring injury.
A knee injury, possibly related to the one Shields suffered in college last year, was keeping him out earlier. The fourth-rounder has apparently fallen behind seventh-round pick Chaz Schilens. We expect little in the way of production from Shields this season.
  • LV Wide Receiver
With Ronald Curry (foot) sidelined, Drew Carter and Javon Walker were the Raiders’ first-team wideouts at May OTAs.
Carter is the favorite for third receiver duties over Johnnie Lee Higgins and Arman Shields. Hopefully we’ll get some word on how Walker (knee) looked.
  • LV Wide Receiver
Coach Lane Kiffin says that among all the Raiders’ receivers, Drew Carter has developed the best chemistry with JaMarcus Russell.
Carter has put in significant time working with Russell as he attempts to lock down the No. 3 receiver job over Johnnie Lee Higgins and Arman Shields.
  • NYG Wide Receiver
Receiver Todd Watkins is making a “serious run” to make the Raiders.
He still has to beat out Chaz Schilens and Arman Shields, but Watkins has had a huge start to camp and the coaches are high on his potential. He’s someone to watch due to Oakland’s other lackluster receiver options.
  • LV Wide Receiver
The Falcons are trying out free agent WR Arman Shields this weekend.
Shields, a 2008 fourth-round pick of the Raiders, is participating in Falcons camp on a tryout basis. Also at minicamp is Richmond QB Eric Ward. Ward held off Bills seventh-round pick Levi Brown to be the Spiders’ starting QB before Brown transferred to Troy and won Sun Belt Player of the Year honors.
  • LV Wide Receiver
Raiders 2008 fourth-round WR Arman Shields is having problems with the same knee that was surgically repaired before last season.
Coach Tom Cable is calling him “day-to-day,” but Shields has already fallen behind the other young receivers on the Raiders. He needs to get back on the field after missing all of last season.
  • LV Wide Receiver
Raiders waived WR Arman Shields and QB Danny Southwick.
Shields, last year’s fourth-round pick, wasn’t healthy since the Raiders drafted him. Al Davis blew a $425K signing bonus on the former Richmond Spider and college teammate of Tim Hightower. Shields was still having problems with his surgically repaired knee at OTAs, and probably will clear waivers.
