Eagles signed CB Avonte Maddox to a one-year contract.
Just weeks after being released by the Eagles, Maddox is back with the team on a one-year deal. Maddox played in only four games last season due to a pectoral injury, and played in only nine games in 2022. Maddox has been a solid slot corner when healthy, but staying on the field is key. We’ll see if he’s able to enjoy a more successful season in 2024.
  • FA Cornerback #29
    Eagles released CB Avonte Maddox.
25 days shy of his 28th birthday, Maddox is getting cut following a 2023 where pectoral issues limited him to only four games. This, after injury limited him to nine appearances during the Eagles’ Super Bowl 2022 campaign. The move clears just $1.96 million if Maddox is a pre-June 1 release, leaving behind over $7 million in dead money. Ineffective when healthy last year, the slot man is going to have issues landing any guaranteed money beyond 2024 in free agency.
  • PHI Cornerback #29
Eagles activated CB Avonte Maddox from injured reserve.
Maddox has been out since Week 2 and immediately provides a significant boost to a secondary currently allowing the most fantasy points per game to opposing wide receivers. It’s a significant dent to the Week 17 expectation for Rondale Moore.
  • PHI Cornerback #29
Eagles designated CB Avonte Maddox (pectoral) to return from injured reserve.
That opens the veteran cornerback’s 21-day practice window. Maddox has been out since Week 2 and his return would do wonders for a Philadelphia secondary that has not played to the level they had in 2022.
  • PHI Cornerback #29
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Eagles CB Avonte Maddox will undergo surgery for a torn pectoral and is out indefinitely.
Maddox was already feared to be lost for the season after exiting Week 2’s contest against the Vikings. A deep postseason run by the Eagles could buy him enough time to get back on the field come playoff time, but it seems unlikely we’ll be seeing Maddox in any regular season contests. Cornerback Mario Goodrich could be first in line to takeover for Maddox after filling in for him in last week’s win.
  • PHI Cornerback #29
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Eagles fear CB Avonte Maddox may have torn is pectoral muscle in Thursday’s Week 2 win over the Vikings.
Maddox left the field during Thursday’s game and did not return, after being diagnosed with what was initially believed to be a shoulder injury. Now, Maddox is set to get a second opinion on his injury, but if a torn pectoral is confirmed, it would end his 2023 campaign. Maddox has played the majority of his career from the slot, and was replaced by Mario Goodrich in yesterday’s game following his injury.
  • Cornerback #29
Eagles CB Avonte Maddox was forced from Philadelphia’s Week 2 game against the Vikings with a shoulder injury and will not return.
Maddox’s loss further thins Philly’s already questionable corner depth with James Bradberry sidelined with a concussion. The 27-year-old has 10 days to get healthy for Week 3 against the Bucs.
  • PHI Defensive Back #29
Eagles CB Avonte Maddox (toe) was removed from the injury report and will play in Super Bowl LVII against the Chiefs.
Maddox missed a handful of games late in the season with the toe issue but was cleared to play in the NFC Championship. He was spotted in a walking boot the following week but all reports indicated that was nothing more than a precautionary measure. He closed the final day of Super Bowl prep with a full practice and is good to go. Britain Covey is the only player with an injury designation for either team.

  • PHI Defensive Back #29
The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Josh Tolentino reports Eagles CB Avonte Maddox (toe) is expected to play in Super Bowl LVII.
Maddox was spotted in a walking boot and has not practiced this week, though the Eagles listed all of their injured players as also receiving rest days. Over a week out from the Super Bowl, all signs point to the team simply being cautious with their players. Maddox played through the toe injury in the NFC Championship and is expected to be good to go for next Sunday.

  • PHI Defensive Back #29
Eagles CB Avonte Maddox (toe) is not on the injury report for the NFC Championship vs the 49ers.
Maddox missed the last three games but was cleared to play after returning to practice this week. The Eagles may limit Maddox’s snaps but his return upgrades their secondary in the slot. Maddox started 8-of-9 games in the regular season, posting 43 tackles, an interception, and three forced fumbles while playing 75% of defensive snaps.
