  • NYJ Quarterback #15
Bears signed QB Brett Rypien to a one-year contract.
Rypien joins Justin Fields and Tyson Bagent on the active roster for the coming 2024 season. While the signing itself is not overly exciting, the fact that the team brought in a third quarterback before any movement or news surrounding the status of Justin Fields is intriguing. This does not mean Fields is likely on the move but it does raise collective eyebrows as to what General Manager Ryan Poles is likely to do with the enigmatic signal caller.
  • NYJ Quarterback #15
Jets declared QB Brett Rypien, WR Jason Brownlee, OT Carter Warren, OT Max Mitchell, LB Marcelino McCrary-Ball, DE Carl Lawson and CB Bryce Hall inactive for Week 15 against the Dolphins.
Not counting the players who are on injured reserve, of course, the Jets are relatively healthy for this time of year as they embark on a must-win game against Miami.
  • NYJ Quarterback #15
Jets signed QB Brett Rypien, formerly of the Seahawks.
Rypien had been on the Seahawks practice squad after starting a game last month for the Rams. He’ll likely back up Zach Wilson, who’s set to retake the Jets starting role with the release of Tim Boyle.
  • FA Quarterback #7
    Jets released QB Tim Boyle.
Boyle threw four picks and one touchdown in two games as New York’s starter after the team succumbed to public pressure and benched Zach Wilson. The team has reportedly asked Wilson to step back into to the starting job — a request not fully embraced by the third-year quarterback. Wilson will likely get the starting gig for Week 14 against the Texans now that Boyle is out of the picture. The Jets signed journeyman QB Brett Rypien on Tuesday.
  • SEA Quarterback #11
    Seahawks signed QB Brett Rypien.
Just days after being let go by the Rams, Rypien will now join the Seahawks practice squad, presumably serving as the QB3 behind Geno Smith and Drew Lock. One start from Rypien was all the Rams needed to see to fire off the Carson Wentz signal, which was answered by the former No. 2 overall pick, making Rypien expendable. Rypien threw for 130 scoreless yards and an interception in Week 9’s loss to the Packers. In 10 career games, Rypien has thrown for 950 yards, four touchdowns and nine interceptions. He’s the perfect quarterback to stream a defense against if he ever starts another game.
  • FA Quarterback #11
The Rams are releasing QB Brett Rypien, QB Dresser Winn, and RB Myles Gaskin.
With the Rams signing Carson Wentz to back-up Matthew Stafford, they released QBs Brett Rypien and Dresser Winn. Rypien struggled in a spot start for Stafford in Week 9, while Winn was promoted from the practice squad for the week. Myles Gaskin also gets cut loose after a few weeks with the team. Kyren Williams is slated to return soon and Gaskin is no longer needed for depth.
  • LAR Quarterback #11
Brett Rypien completed 13-of-28 passes for 130 yards and an interception in Week 9 vs the Packers.
Rypien struggled filling in for Matthew Stafford, throwing an interception and losing a fumble. The Rams failed to score a touchdown, settling for a field goal on their only scoring drive. With a bye in Week 10, the Rams will hope to get Stafford back for a Week 11 matchup with Seattle.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Brett Rypien will start in Week 9 against the Packers.
Things had been trending this way throughout the week. Stafford did not practice at any point this week while recovering from a UCL sprain in his right hand. Rypien will make his fourth career start this week. He has four touchdowns and eight interceptions with most of his action coming as a member of the Broncos. Both Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp will have downgraded fantasy outlooks for Week 9.
  • LAR Quarterback #9

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Matthew Stafford (thumb) is unlikely to play in Week 9 against the Packers.
The plan, per reports, is for Brett Rypien to get the start under center for LA against the Packers. It’s a disastrous turn of events for the fantasy prospects of Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp, who now become shaky flex plays with Rypien starting. Rypien has completed 61 percent of his passes for four touchdowns and eight picks since entering the NFL in 2020. Last week, Rypien completed five of ten attempts for 42 scoreless yards when Stafford exited with a thumb injury. Green Bay’s defense becomes a top fantasy option against Rypien.
  • LAR Quarterback #9
Rams HC Sean McVay said Matthew Stafford (thumb) will be a game-time decision for Week 9 against the Packers.
After being slapped with the questionable tag on Friday, McVay confirmed that Stafford will take things down to the wire to determine whether or not he can play on Sunday. The key to the veteran quarterback playing against the Packers could come down to whether or not he can grip the ball after suffering a sprained UCL in his thumb last week. Stafford hasn’t practiced this week, but that may not matter come game day. Fantasy managers banking on Stafford playing will want a backup plan in place he can’t go. The Rams will announce inactives 90 minutes before the 1:00 PM kickoff, which may be the earliest we learn of Stafford’s official Week 9 status.
