Seahawks placed G Christian Haynes on injured reserve and designated him for return.
Haynes, a third-round pick from 2024, was unable to play in the last two preseason games due to an elbow injury. The 25-year-old projects as a backup at this stage, and won’t be able to return until October at the earliest. The Seahawks also placed WR/KR Stephen Sims on IR while placing DE Rylie Mills and NT Jonathan Hankins on NFI (non-football injury list).
  • Seahawks declared RG Christian Haynes, WR DK Metcalf, CB Nehmiah Pritchett, LB Trevis Gipson, OG Sataoa Laumea, TE Noah Fant, and DE Myles Adams inactive for Week 9 against the Rams.
Both Metcalf and Fant were ruled out on Friday. The Seahawks are hopeful Metcalf will be back after their upcoming bye. Fant is expected to miss multiple weeks.
  • Seahawks selected Connecticut OG Christian Haynes with the No. 81 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Haynes was an unheralded two-star high school recruit lacking in Power Five interest when he enrolled at UConn back in 2018. He took a redshirt before going on to log four seasons of 800+ snaps, with every single one of his 3,319 career reps coming at right guard. Haynes’ blocking prowess crested in 2022, when he allowed just three pressures and zero sacks on 328 pass reps, good for a 91st percentile PFF pass block grade that ranked tops amongst FBS interior linemen. His stiff hands have the striking power to jolt rushers off their line and the torque to latch on and drive opponents to the ground. In sync with his linemates on stunts and swiftly climbs to nullify linebackers when running the ball. Haynes lacks positional malleability and is undersized for interior work, but he has a keen understanding of leverage that helps him get underneath opponents’ pads and stall out their rush. Haynes’ overall value at the next level could be suppressed if teams deem him as a right guard only.
