The Raiders tried to convert Bing to linebacker, but it didn’t work. Its a strong statement about Bing’s ability that his former USC coach Lane Kiffin would cut him. Bing, the 101st pick last season, is the highest 2006 draftee cut to date.

A hard-hitting safety at USC, questions about Bing’s straight-line speed hurt him on draft day. He’ll be a backup weak-side ‘backer in Oakland.

Bing was converting from the safety position after playing at USC. Francis hasn’t stayed healthy as a pro.

After starring at the position at USC, the old Raiders regime attempted to move Bing back to linebacker. In a perfect world, Bing would eventually emerge as a starter at strong safety with Michael Huff opposite him.

The Raiders have drafted a potential long-term pair of starters at safety in Bing and Michael Huff. They have the youngest secondary in the league and can basically put four cornerback types on the field at the same time.

A strong safety in college, Bing’s mediocre speed is better suited for the new position. He’ll just need to fill out a bit.

Oakland is expected to play the college safety at outside linebacker. He currently weighs 227.

This wasn’t the best place for Bing to land if he wants to avoid bouncing around from team to team. He’ll have a fight in front of him for a roster spot with the invaluable Keith Lewis and fourth-round rookie Dashon Goldson.

Bockwoldt and Hilton are former Saints who have bounced around the league quite a bit. Bing looks to be running out of chances quickly after getting drafted by the Raiders last year. Rayburn had some decent seasons with Philadelphia.

Bing, a fourth-round pick in 2006 has spent one season on injured reserve in Oakland, and one on the 49ers’ practice squad. Daniels was briefly with the Jets after going undrafted in April. Johnson has played in 13 NFL games in two seasons, but not since being being waived by the Texans prior to this year.
