Smith

Smith is visiting the Jets this weekend. The former University of Cincinnati star has experience at both cornerback and safety, but he hasn’t played in an NFL game since the 2009 season.

It’s a pure flier for the Jets, as the former fifth-round pick hasn’t appeared in a game since 2009, and drew just one known workout in 2011. At best, Smith may survive until final cuts.

Smith must not have shown much in OTAs, as he was just signed a month ago. The former University of Cincinnati star hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since 2009. Jones spent time on the practice squads of the Rams and Jets after going undrafted out of Texas.

Smith was strictly a cornerback at Cincinnati, but the Cowboys envision both him and Alan Ball as a versatile enough to also handle safety. An option to return punts, he’ll concentrate mostly on special teams as a rookie.

Smith was one of the Cowboys’ fifth-round picks in April. The former UC Bearcat has experience at safety and corner, but will likely only cover kickoffs.

Cleveland guaranteed a ton of players’ Week 1 salaries that are now being waived. Smith, a fifth-rounder in April, should make it to the practice squad.

Smith, a 2009 fifth-round pick out of Cincinnati, took on a bigger role than the Lions would’ve liked late last season, and had 16 tackles and a pass breakup in the final seven games. Ideally, they will upgrade this offseason.
