The Seahawks worked out free agent WR Dominique Zeigler on Tuesday.
It’s Zeigler’s first known workout since he was among the 49ers’ final cuts in September. A former undrafted free agent, he tallied nine catches for 98 yards in 11 games last season before tearing his ACL. He’d likely be limited to special teams duty in Seattle.
  • SF Wide Receiver
Dominique Zeigler has been getting the most reps as the 49ers’ third receiver at training camp so far.
Zeigler has exhibited sure hands and is one of the Niners’ top route runners. A former undrafted free agent from Baylor, Zeigler is pushing Jason Hill hard in the slot with Brandon Jones out well into the season and Michael Crabtree holding out. It looks like Zeigler will cost Arnaz Battle a roster spot.
  • FA Running Back #30
49ers waived RB Kory Sheets, OL Jacob Bender, WR Dominique Zeigler, OT Alex Boone, and TE Bear Pascoe.
The Niners will try to get all of the above on their practice squad, but doing so with Boone and Sheets will be difficult. Both have NFL caliber talent and weren’t overwhelmed in the preseason. With Pascoe and J.J. Finley both gone, San Francisco is carrying just two tight ends.
  • SF Wide Receiver
49ers signed WR Dominique Zeigler to their practice squad.
He was emerging as a good bet to make the roster when Brandon Jones went down and the Michael Crabtree situation didn’t develop. But then Arnaz Battle turned it on and Jason Hill ended up sticking in the slot. With seven wideouts on the 49ers’ active roster, Zeigler needs multiple injuries to get activated.
  • FA Running Back #31
49ers signed RB Thomas Clayton and WR Dominique Zeigler to their practice squad.
Zeigler produced in the preseason and has some slot receiver potential in Mike Martz’s offense. Clayton is essentially the team’s fourth tailback now.
  • SF Wide Receiver
49ers waived WR Dominique Zeigler, T Joe Toledo, G Brian de la Puente, TE J.J. Finley, LB Larry Grant, DE Louis Holmes, S D.J. Parker, CB Markus Curry, and DL Walter Curry.
Zeigler was productive in the preseason, but it wasn’t enough to move him past Jason Hill. Grant could draw interest because he’ll cover kicks.
  • SF Wide Receiver
49ers signed WR Dominique Zeigler and waived T Kirk Barton.
Zeigler, an undrafted rookie, made some noise in the preseason before joining the team’s practice squad. He’ll provide depth at the slot receiver position with Arnaz Battle out Sunday.
  • SF Wide Receiver
49ers signed WR Dominique Zeigler, LB Martail Burnett, OT Alex Boone, and DL Khalif Mitchell to reserve/future contracts.
Zeigler, a slot/flanker type with some return value, has the best shot here to make the 2010 roster, with Boone a close second. Boone is limited to only right tackle, however, and versatility is essential for reserve linemen.
  • SF Wide Receiver
Dominique Zeigler is a long shot to make the 49ers’ roster this season.
Zeigler, a returner/slot receiver, was essentially pushed out the door when Ted Ginn came aboard.
  • SF Wide Receiver
49ers WR Dominique Zeigler is being sent for an MRI on his left knee after X-rays turned up negative.
The Niners are concerned that Zeigler suffered severe ligament damage in Monday night’s game. The special teamer and No. 4 receiver could be done for the year.
