    49ers released K Matt Gay.
Gay made four field goals and four extra points without missing a kick in two games for the 49ers. But starter Eddy Pinero is healthy enough to be active again, and so the 49ers will move on. Gay joins the workout kicker circuit again and figures to get a third opportunity at some point in the last month of the season.

49ers declared K Eddy Pineiro, LB Tatum Bethune, DE Sam Okuayinonu, RB Jordan James, WR Jordan Watkins, OL Connor Colby, and DT Kevin Givens inactive for Week 13 against the Browns.
Pineiro missed practice this week with a hamstring issue and will miss a second straight game. Matt Gay, who made both of his field goal tries and both extra point attempts in Week 12 against the Panthers, will kick for the Niners against the Browns. He’s not a great fantasy option considering the weather conditions expected in Cleveland on Sunday.

49ers K Eddy Pineiro (hamstring) did not participate in Wednesday’s practice.
Pineiro is still not back at practice after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 11. Matt Gay kicked in his stead in Week 12 and is likely to do so again for Week 13 against the Browns.

49ers declared K Eddy Pineiro, RB Jordan James, WR Jordan Watkins, OL Connor Colby, DL Robert Beal Jr., DL Kevin Givens, and LB Tatum Bethune inactive for Week 12 against the Panthers.
Linebacker Tatum Bethune and kicker Eddy Pineiro are the two most notable names missing for the 49ers as they fight to keep pace with the Rams and Seahawks at the top of a crowded NFC West. Matt Gay will fill in at kicker while the team will likely require a slight shuffling on the interior of their second level with Bethune out of action.
  • SF Kicker #18
49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said K Eddy Pineiro (hamstring) has a strain and is “week to week.”
The 49ers will have a kicker workout on Tuesday or Wednesday. Given the 49ers’ offensive firepower and how often Shanahan is willing to settle for field goals, whoever the 49ers sign could be worthy of fantasy consideration in Week 12 against the Panthers.
  • SF Kicker #18
49ers K Eddy Pineiro (hamstring) exited Week 11 against the Cardinals and did not return.
Pineiro left in the second half of the 49ers’ Week 11 game against the Cardinals. He missed two extra points on the day, but had made three field goals prior to leaving the game. The 30-year-old was listed as questionable to return, but with the 49ers up big, there may not be a need for Pineiro to kick the rest of the game.
  • 49ers signed K Eddy Pineiro.
The fabled two-update day on Eddy Pineiro has come to pass. At some point this year he’ll probably be fantasy-interesting, though it might not be in Week 2 given how banged up the 49ers currently are.
  • Free agent K Eddy Pineiro is visiting with the 49ers Tuesday.
He’s one plausible replacement for the recently-waived Jake Moody. The 49ers kicker job generally comes with a lot of fantasy appeal, but they’re banged up enough to this point that whoever kicks for San Francisco this weekend against the Saints may not see many attempts.
  • Free agent K Eddy Pineiro worked out for the Bills on Thursday.
Fellow free agent kickers Zane Gonzalez and Greg Joseph also worked out for the Bills. Incumbent K Tyler Bass struggled last season and dealt with a pelvis injury in training camp. The Bills are likely just covering their bases, but Bass could be a risky fantasy pick at this time.
  • Dolphins worked out K Eddy Pineiro, formerly of the Panthers.
Jason Sanders will be sidelined to start the regular season, prompting the Dolphins to explore their options at kicker for the first few games. Pineiro has a career 88.1% field goal conversion rate but ended his 2024 season with a hamstring injury.
