    Lions waived RB Eldra Buckley.
He’s the odd man out after Detroit re-signed Kevin Smith. Buckley didn’t receive a carry in two games after being signed in mid-October, contributing mostly on special teams.
  • DET Running Back
Lions worked out free agent RB Eldra Buckley on Thursday.
A undisclosed second running back was also present but didn’t finish the workout. Primarily a special teamer with the Eagles in 2009-2010, Buckley averaged just 3.1 yards on 36 carries. He’d be nothing more than insurance if signed. Although PFT’s Mike Florio suggested the Lions should kick the tires on Tiki Barber, there are no indications that the team is interested.
  • DET Running Back
Lions signed RB Eldra Buckley, formerly of the Eagles.
Buckley tried out Thursday alongside Jalen Parmele, who apparently didn’t make it through the workout. With Jahvid Best (concussion) out this week and Jerome Harrison (brain tumor) out for the season, Buckley will add depth behind Maurice Morris and Keiland Williams. The Lions are in trouble if Buckley ever has to take on a major ball-carrying role.
  • FA Running Back #25
With Brian Westbrook (ankle, knee) sidelined, rookie LeSean McCoy ran as the Eagles’ first-team tailback at Tuesday’s training camp practice.
Lorenzo Booker wasn’t there, but McCoy probably has the edge in the battle anyways after a big spring. Eldra Buckley, who has little chance of making the club, rotated in with McCoy. It’s uncertain when Booker will report to camp.
  • DET Running Back
In a mild surprise, Eagles RB Eldra Buckley made the roster.
Buckley made the team over Lorenzo Booker, and deservedly so. Buckley isn’t much of a receiver but he can fly and will help on special teams. He’ll be the third running back behind Brian Westbrook and Shady McCoy.

Chargers waived RB Eldra Buckley, DE Andre Coleman, NT Keith Jackson, TE Keith Grennan, DT Lamar Divens, LB Antwan Applewhite, LB Erik Bakhtiari, WR Gary Banks, S Tra Battle, CB Josh Bell, TE Wade Betschart, and SS Brian Bonner.
Buckley was buried on the depth chart. Applewhite is a practice squad candidate. Jackson is the son of the former Hall of Fame tight end.
  • DET Running Back
Eldra Buckley served as the Eagles’ goal-line back in Sunday’s win over the Redskins.
The Eagles lined up for a first-and-goal from the one-yard line and gave the ball to Buckley on three of four plays. He finally broke through on fourth down for a big fourth-quarter score. Leonard Weaver is also an option for this role, so don’t go adding Buckley.
  • FA Running Back #25
LeSean McCoy 17 times for 76 yards and caught four passes for 25 yards in Sunday’s win over the Redskins.
McCoy also converted a two-point play on a shovel pass. The rookie continues to impress with his ability to make the first tackler miss. McCoy was removed on the goal line in favor of seldom-used Eldra Buckley, which is a blow to his value. He’s still a RB2 at Atlanta next week.
  • DET Running Back
    Chargers waived RB Eldra Buckley.
He didn’t show much upside on the practice squad the last two years.
  • DET Running Back
Chargers signed RB Eldra Buckley, OLB Eric Bakhtiari, WR Gary Banks, DE Andre Coleman, G Brandyn Dombrowski, CB Grant Mason, NT Ogemdi Nwagbou, and CB DeJuan Tribble to reserve/future contracts.
Buckley has spent the last two seasons on the practice squad. Tribble, a mid-round pick last April, might have the best shot here of hanging around. He is a good tackler and the Bolts will likely play a lot of zone next year.
