UCLA redshirt senior WR Ethan Fernea was granted a fifth year of eligibility but must sit out the team’s opening week game against Colorado.
Fernea (5'11/197) played two snaps in one game his true freshman year, which is why the NCAA is making him sit for one game this season. It’s a strange decision since the new rules allow players to participate in four games while still being able to redshirt. However since his freshman year occurred before that rule was passed, they apparently feel like he has to account for that one brief freshman year appearance. Regardless, it’s good to see common sense prevail for the redshirt senior wideout. Fernea will make his season debut Friday, November 13 when UCLA hosts Utah.
