Ex-Bears RB Garrett Wolfe has signed with the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes.
A third-round pick by Chicago in 2007, the undersized Wolfe was a solid special teams contributor for four years, but never developed at tailback. Now going on 28, Wolfe spent the 2011 season with the CFL’s Omaha Nighthawks.

Garrett Wolfe (shoulder surgery, lacerated kidney) has been at full speed since the beginning of the Bears’ offseason workout program.
Wolfe won’t have a shot at a running back role with Chester Taylor in town, but the speedster is valuable enough on special teams to make the team.

Bears RB Adrian Peterson (calf) returned to limited drills Friday.
Peterson’s calf injury appears to have gotten worse, as he’s listed as questionable after being probable in Week 5. Cedric Benson should carry a full load against Green Bay, with Garrett Wolfe seeing passing-down work.

Bears RB Adrian Peterson (calf) again sat out Bears practice Thursday.
Peterson now is uncertain to play against the Packers Sunday night. Garrett Wolfe would be in line for more work behind current starter Cedric Benson.

Adrian Peterson ran for eight yards and a TD on five carries, and caught two passes for 21 yards, as the Bears beat the Colts Monday night.
Peterson easily executed on a third-quarter goal-line carry. Garrett Wolfe (8-28, 1-11) looked more explosive, albeit against second- and third-stringers. Peterson currently has a solid handle on the backup job to Cedric Benson.

Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner promises to make Garrett Wolfe and Devin Hester bigger parts of the game plan this week.
Hester barely played on offense against San Diego, while the rookie Wolfe didn’t play at all. It’s surprising Chicago didn’t utilize the two speedsters more often to the outside considering how stout the Chargers are up the middle.

Bears RB Garrett Wolfe returned to practice on Saturday.
Wolfe missed a week of practice, and only participated in individual drills. He will be eased into the team sessions. Wolfe is expected to be Chicago’s third back behind Cedric Benson and Adrian Peterson.
  • FA Running Back
Cedric Benson was stopped for a loss or no gain on eight of his 19 carries by the 49ers in Saturday’s preseason game.
Benson has not been overly effective during the preseason. He did score a touchdown, which Benson should do double-digit times this season with no competition for goal-line carries. Backups Garrett Wolfe (13-41, 2-7) and Adrian Peterson (6-27-1, 1-7) could catch more passes.
  • CHI Running Back
Bears rookie tailback Garrett Wolfe has missed two straight days of training camp with a hamstring injury.
Its early, but the undersized third-down back needs to stay healthy for a chance to be Cedric Benson’s backup. Veteran Adrian Peterson should be considered the favorite for the role until proven otherwise.

Cedric Benson sat out the final 11 minutes of the first half Sunday after fumbling for the third time this season.
Rookie Garret Wolfe subbed for Benson in back-to-back series. Offensive coordinator Ron Turner said afterward that he had always planned to get Wolfe more snaps, but the move was clearly motivated by Benson’s fumble. “Obviously, he’s got to hold on to the ball,” Turner said. Benson had just three yards on five carries in the first half, but rushed 10 times for 47 yards after halftime.
