He didn’t want to re-sign last year after going 3-0 for the Vikings with a 118.1 QB rating. He’ll be an attractive backup on the market this year.

Normally, that would hurt Frerotte’s chances for the starting job. But A.J. Feeley was worse against second-stringers. The Dolphins may wait another preseason game, but we expect Frerotte to be named the starter.

The Dolphins wanted his arm to get some rest before Monday’s Hall-of-Fame game. Coach Nick Saban hasn’t announced who will start the game.

Advantage, Frerotte. With A.J. Feeley getting knocked out of the game quickly, Frerotte took the lead in Miami’s QB competition with a solid effort. He completed a few tough third-down plays on a 80-yard TD drive to close the first half.

Nick Saban named Feeley his starter for the first exhibition game against Chicago, with Frerotte set to handle that role against the Jaguars. After Feeley was injured in the first quarter, Frerotte finished 11 of 17 passing for 143 yards.

We had Frerotte pegged as the starter a week before he signed in Miami, so it’s not a huge surprise. There is some optimism Frerotte can help improve the Dolphins passing game, if only because their offensive system is better.

It’s over. Frerotte took all first-team snaps Monday, will continue to do so all week, and will start Friday’s game. We’d take Frerotte in fantasy leagues over Alex Smith, Patrick Ramsey, J.P. Losman, and Chad Hutchinson.

The Dolphins have all but made it official that Frerotte is the team’s starting quarterback.

The Dolphins lost seven fumbles in the game, short-circuiting most drives. A.J. Feeley played better, but not enough better.

Frerotte hurt himself moving boxes into his new house, which is a 13-year-veteran injury if we’ve ever heard one. It’s uncertain if the injury is serious.
