The Panthers went out of their way not to call it a broken thumb, because it’s at the tip. The Panthers may rest him in practice, but sound like they expect him to start. Rodney Peete and Chris Weinke may get more snaps early in the week.

It’s hard to imagine Rodney Peete starting an NFL game right now. The Panthers are already severely handicapped in the running game. If they also can’t throw, the Cardinals could be a lock to get to .500.

He sat out Wednesday because of his thumb injury, but it won’t prevent him from playing anytime soon. Delhomme has a tough matchup this week versus the Bucs.

Be careful about buying too much Super Bowl hype after Delhomme’s remarkable Super Bowl performance. He’s still an average fantasy quarterback at best.

He made a few poor decisions, but the Panthers offense really moved the ball well all first half.

Delhomme was facing tons of pressure throughout the game, as Carolina’s offensive line failed miserably trying to protect him from DE John Abraham and company. Delhomme was visibly frustrated several times and fumbled twice.

Delhomme was able to report and get in a full session one day after being signed. According to coach Gary Kubiak, Delhomme “came a long way just from the first play of practice to the last play.” Delhomme won’t be under center against the Falcons, but anything beyond this week will depend on how T.J. Yates performs.

Kubiak is also comfortable with Jake Delhomme as the No. 2 QB because he’s thrown well, picked up the offense quickly, and already embraced a mentoring role with Yates.
