Illinois HC Lovie Smith said that sophomore DT Jamal Woods is dealing with a “significant injury.”
The exact nature of the injury isn’t clear yet, but what is clear is that Woods will miss a stretch upcoming. Smith would not go so far as to say that the 6-foot-2, 265-pound sophomore will miss the rest of the season, though, perhaps a glimmer of hope for later in the autumn. It’s a rough loss for the already defensively-challenged Illini, as Woods had racked up 13 tackles (4.0 for loss) and a sack while starting the first four games of the season. Look for the team to lean all the more on Tymir Oliver and Kenyon Jackson now that Woods has been ruled out for the foreseeable future.
