Falcons CB Dominique Franks is in the mix to replace Eric Weems as the primary kick returner.
Despite emerging as a quality fill-in for Brent Grimes down the stretch, Franks will be pushed into the dime role on defense this year. He’s battling Harry Douglas and Jacquizz Rodgers’ brother, James, for punt-returner duties. RB Antone Smith appears to be the early favorite on kickoff returns.
  • Wide Receiver
Falcons signed WR James Rodgers, WR Marcus Jackson, OG Jacques McClendon, DT Micanor Regis, LB Pat Schiller, TE Andrew Szczerba, CB Peyton Thompson and RB Josh Vaughan to reserve/future contracts.
Rodgers is Jacquizz’s older brother. Vaughan spent 10 games on the Panthers’ active roster between 2010-11, and has 10 career carries for 31 yards.
  • Wide Receiver
Falcons signed WR James Rodgers, FB Patrick DiMarco, QB Seth Doege, WR Darius Johnson, CB Jordan Mabin, OG Phillipkeith Manley, DT Adam Replogle, and TE Mickey Shuler to their practice squad.
Rodgers is the brother of Falcons RB Jacquizz. Doege played his college ball at Texas Tech and will at least temporarily serve as Atlanta’s third-string quarterback behind Matt Ryan and Dominique Davis.
  • Wide Receiver
Falcons waived or released WR James Rodgers, LB Robert James, WR Darius Johnson, OL Jacques McClendon, FB Patrick DiMarco, WR Martel Moore, OG Phillipkeith Manley, CB Jordan Mabin, and DT Adam Replogle.
Rodgers is the less-talented brother of Jacquizz. James was a fifth-round pick in 2008 and a key special teams member. The rest were roster fillers.
