He’s an unrestricted free agent, and should be a top priority for the Jets this offseason. If they keep the group together, their defensive line is very strong.

NFL Network considers them the favorites, while Newsday confirms Dallas’ interest. In other news, Bill Parcells is lobbying for a change in the team nickname to the Dallas Jets.

The Cowboys have to be disappointed their new run-stuffer has been unable to play during the preseason thus far.

Ferguson’s violation of the league’s banned substances policy seems relatively innocent, but the medication was banned nonetheless. It’s unclear if he plans to appeal. Ferguson is not expected to see the field before Week 10.

Ferguson may not play in Thursday’s preseason finale. “He’s doing better,” said Parcells, “but I don’t want to set him back either.’'

His lack of action this month could force Dallas to play more 4-3 defense to start the season than they planned. But Ferguson should start in week one.

The key to Dallas’ 3-4 defense has been slowed by a sprained ankle. The team will reportedly use a 4-3 more than expected because they want LaRoi Glover on the field more.

He’d be the anchor of Dallas’ move to the 3-4 defense. The Jets badly want to keep him, but have a ton of money already invested on their defensive line.

The deal will pay him $11 million in the first two years of the deal. We’re not sure how Ferguson is worth so much more than Pat Williams, but Parcells pays extra for his guys. Ferguson has never been a standout, but he’ll use up blockers as Dallas moves to the 3-4. He’s not a IDP option.

It’s still likely, but ESPN reports nothing is official at this point.
