Putzier

Putzier looked excellent catching passes in the preseason. He won’t put up Shannon Sharpe numbers, but he’s worth a look for teams in need of another tight end.

On film, Putzier has been Denver’s best tight end this preseason. We’d avoid the whole lot of them in fantasy leagues right now.

He’s a perfect bye-week fill-in versus the hapless Bengals defense. Putzier will play more than usual because tight end Dwayne Carswell is suspended for one game.

Ouch. Putzier is a superior pass-catcher, but his blocking skills are holding him back. We love Putzier as a sleeper this season, but he needs a big preseason to regain his starter role and fulfill his enormous potential. We’ll downgrade him a bit until that happens.

He’s trying to win the starting job back from Stephen Alexander. Alexander didn’t have a catch.

Putzier had just one catch, but QB David Carr actually targeted him five times. If that continues, Putzier will be someone to watch.

That tells you what kind of day Jake Plummer had. Putzier is a decent pickup at tight end right now, with 7 catches for 108 yards over the last two weeks.

Putzier is on pace for 525 yards for the season, solid totals for a tight end.

Putzier is a rare commodity: a tight end who is a deep threat. He’s averaging 16.2 ypc and has proved to be a top 12 tight end thus far.

We love his big-play ability and the role of the tight end in Denver’s offense. We’re just not sure Mike Shanahan will stand pat with Putzier next season.
