ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano report that they expect the Jets to “consider dealing veterans to acquire draft capital” and “probably will be active sellers.”
In a linked article, Fowler identifies the Chargers, Chiefs and Texans as the best fits for Jets RB Breece Hall and puts Hall’s odds of being traded at 35.0 percent, for what that’s worth. The 24-year-old running back is scheduled to enter free agency at the end of the year, and the Jets currently have RB Braelon Allen (knee, injured reserve) and RB Isaiah Davis under contract through 2027. Davis can be stashed, speculatively, at this time. Acquiring draft picks in exchange for Hall makes sense from a team-building perspective. Should he land with the Chargers or Chiefs, Hall’s fantasy-scoring ceiling could rise considerably, operating as a featured player in a high-scoring offense. Things could become complicated upon Chargers RB Omarion Hampton’s (ankle) return from injured reserve in the former scenario. Hall would undoubtedly become the Texans’ lead running back but the positional rotation gets a bit murkier. The ESPN reporters also list EDGE Jermaine Johnson and CB Michael Carter II also potential trade candidates.

Jets LB Jermaine Johnson (ankle) was removed from the injury report and will play in Week 6 against the Broncos.
Johnson hasn’t played since injuring his ankle in Week 2. The fourth-year pass-rusher was officially upgraded to a full participant on Friday, allowing him to be removed from the injury report. Johnson has played in just four games since 2024 due to a torn Achilles suffered in Week 2 of last season. He tallied a career-high 7.5 sacks in 2023, and should provide immediate help to a Jets defense that has struggled out of the gate.

Jets LB Jermaine Johnson (ankle) was limited on Thursday.
This is Johnson’s first practice since injuring his ankle in Week 2. Earlier this week, ESPN’s Rich Cimini reported that Johnson will travel with the team to London ahead of their Week 6 game against the Broncos, which suggests the Jets believe he has a chance to suit up. Today’s limited session is another step in the right direction, though his availability on Sunday is not yet guaranteed. The Jets’ 6.5 NFL sacks tie for the sixth-fewest in the league. They need him back badly.

ESPN’s Rich Cimini reports Jets LB Jermaine Johnson (ankle) will travel with the team to London for Week 6 against the Broncos.
Johnson isn’t a lock to play in Week 6, but the Jets will give him a chance to suit up by letting him travel to London. Johnson hasn’t played since Week 2 and was a DNP all week ahead of Week 5’s game against the Cowboys. Johnson should still be considered a long shot to play until we see how he fares this week in practice. In addition to Johnson, the Jets will also have RB/KR Kene Nwangwu (hamstring) travel to London in hopes of suiting up next week.

Jets LB Jermaine Johnson (ankle) is inactive for Week 5 against the Cowboys.
Johnson was questionable entering the weekend but will now miss his third-straight game due to the ankle injury he suffered in Week 2. Johnson was the only questionable player the Jets had heading into Sunday. In addition to him, the Jets also declared CB Michael Carter (concussion), RB/KR Kene Nwangwu (hamstring), TE Stone Smartt, TE Jelani Woods, DT Leonard Taylor, and OT Esa Pole inactive for Week 5.

Jets HC Aaron Glenn said Jermaine Johnson (calf) could be a game-time decision for Week 5 against the Cowboys.
Johnson hasn’t played since Week 2 and was listed as a DNP on both Wednesday and Thursday, so he’s likely on the wrong side of playing this week. The fourth-year pass rusher has totaled seven tackles this season and is still waiting to secure his first sack of 2025.

Jets coach Aaron Glenn said Jermaine Johnson (ankle) is “week to week.”
We won’t expect him to practice this week based on that. Newly acquired CB Jarvis Brownlee (ankle) joins Johnson on the ‘week to week’ line for Glenn. Johnson has not played since leaving Week 2’s game against the Bills.
  • NYJ Linebacker #11
Jets ruled out LB Jermaine Johnson (ankle) for Week 3 against the Buccaneers.
Johnson suffered an ankle injury in Week 2’s loss to the Bills and was a DNP all week. His absence shouldn’t come as a surprise, given his inactivity on Wednesday and Thursday. Now, the fourth-year pass rusher will hope to return in Week 4 for a Monday night matchup against the Dolphins. In addition to Johnson, the Jets also ruled out Josh Reynolds (hamstring), Kene Nwangwu (hamstring), and Jay Tufele (illness) for Week 3.

Jets activated Jermaine Johnson (Achilles) from the active/physically unable to perform list.
Johnson appears to be on track for Week 1, as he recovers from a season-ending Achilles tendon rupture suffered in Week 2 last year. The Jets were encouraged by Johnson’s recovery this offseason and picked up his fifth-year option in April.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said that edge rusher Jermaine Johnson (Achilles) will be ready for the 2025 season.
Glenn added that Johnson could begin training camp on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list. The one-time Pro Bowler has totaled 10 sacks in his first three seasons, including 7.5 in 2023. It’s worth noting he lost virtually all of his 2024 season (15 games) when he suffered a torn Achilles in Week 2. Johnson is one of three players drafted by the Jets in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, along with Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson.
