    The move was actually made just prior to Oakland’s first pre-draft minicamp. Owens, 30, is a blocking tight end and veteran of nine NFL seasons.

    Raiders released WR Todd Watkins, WR Shaun Bodiford, FB Manase Tonga, TE John Owens, CB Joe Porter, and DT Kellen Heard.
    Watkins caught eight passes for 90 yards in 13 games with Oakland last seasons. The Raiders have only dregs behind Louis Murphy and Darrius Heyward-Bey right now, which doesn’t say much for Watkins or Bodiford.

    It’s likely for the minimum. Owens will compete for a backup job in training camp. Detroit currently has six tight ends on its offseason roster.
