Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham said he sometimes confuses Jordon Dizon with Julian Peterson when he watches tape.
There’s an obvious size difference between the two, but Cunningham’s comparison seems to highlight Dizon’s speed and athleticism. It may also say something about old Gun’s age (63) and declining eyesight. The Lions currently envision last year’s second-rounder as a nickel linebacker and have talked about using him as a blitzer from the outside.

Lions WLB Ernie Sims is out indefinitely with a “significant” shoulder injury.
The newly secretive Lions aren’t saying the injury’s exact extent, but he’s almost certainly not going to be ready for Week 3. Sims has 14 tackles (eight solo) and a fumble recovery through two games. His backups are rookie DeAndre Levy and 2008 surprise second-round pick Jordon Dizon.

Rookie DeAndre Levy got the start Sunday in place of Ernie Sims and finished with six tackles.
Middle man Larry Foote (team-best nine stops) is the best bet for production among Detroit linebackers with Sims out, but Levy is shaping up as a solid long-term prospect. He got the nod Sunday over Jordon Dizon.

Lions rookie LB Jordon Dizon was arrested on DUI charges six days before April’s draft.
It’s unclear if the Lions knew about this beforehand. We doubt the team did considering Dizon went 45th overall -- earlier than expected. Like Frostee Rucker in 2006, the NFL can discipline players arrested during the pre-draft process.

Rookie Jordon Dizon hasn’t even passed Buster Davis on the depth chart to be Detroit’s No. 2 middle linebacker.
Dizon is hardly even a threat to starting MLB Paris Lenon at this point. The rookie from Colorado may only play on special teams early in the year.
  • DET Linebacker
Rookie Jordon Dizon is still “not close” to cracking the Lions’ starting lineup.
He’s far behind MLB Paris Lenon and will not be moved to the strong side. Dizon needs to play at some point this season, but his IDP stock is falling.
  • DET Linebacker
Jordon Dizon will rotate with Lions MLB Paris Lenon moving forward.
Dizon executed his assignments to perfection in the opener and made five stops in just 14 snaps. This is an IDP situation to watch, but avoid for now.

The Detroit Free Press says that Jordon Dizon is unlikely to be suspended after getting a DUI just before being drafted.
They seem to be basing their opinion solely on the fact that Dizon’s event happened before he was in the league. But that wouldn’t necessarily absolve him. Dizon also seems likely to be entered into the league’s substance abuse program.
