The Titans have opened C Eugene Amano’s starting job to competition.
Amano was one of the least effective centers in the NFL last season. While he’s viewed as the “leader in the clubhouse,” Amano will have to hold off Fernando Velasco, Kevin Matthews, and rookie William Vlachos. A veteran signing can’t be ruled out, either. Matthews has been working with the first team while Amano rehabs knee and shoulder surgeries.
  • FA Center #54
Titans C Eugene Amano has been diagnosed with a torn right triceps, and is done for the season.
Amano has been the Titans’ starting center since 2008, but the team opened his job to competition following a dismal 2011, where he graded out as Pro Football Focus’ fourth worst center. Fernando Velasco, Kevin Matthews, and UDFA William Vlachos will now compete for the job, with Velasco as the favorite. The Titans may still explore a dried-up free agent market. Due a salary of $3.685 million in 2013, Amano has likely played his last snap with Tennessee.
  • FA Guard #64
Titans will place RG Leroy Harris (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Harris will undergo surgery to repair a partially torn ACL after getting a second opinion on Tuesday. A free agent in 2013, Harris has an uncertain future in Nashville. His pass-blocking left a lot to be desired in the first half of the season. Kevin Matthews is expected to take over as the starter.
  • CAR Guard #60
Titans C Kevin Matthews exited Monday night’s game against the Jets with a right ankle sprain.
Matthews has been thrust into the starting lineup in recent weeks due to a multitude of injuries along the Tennessee line. Veteran Kyle DeVan has come on to snap the ball to Jake Locker.
  • CAR Guard #60
Titans C Kevin Matthews will miss the final two games of the season with a high-ankle sprain.
He’s expected to be placed on injured reserve, ending his season. Veteran roster yo-yo Kyle DeVan closed out Monday night’s win as the center and is expected to remain there for Weeks 16-17.
  • CAR Guard #60
Titans declined to tender exclusive rights free agent OL Kevin Matthews.
Matthews is the son of Titans offensive line coach and Hall of Famer Bruce Matthews. He appeared in 14 games for Tennessee in 2012, starting two.
  • CAR Guard #60
    Redskins signed G/C Kevin Matthews.
The son of Hall of Famer Bruce Matthews, Kevin is a borderline NFL player. The Titans declined to tender him as an exclusive rights free agent in March. Matthews won’t be guaranteed a roster spot with the ‘Skins.
  • CAR Guard #60
    Titans re-signed C Kevin Matthews.
Matthews was waived just two days ago. Hopefully he hadn’t gone home for Thanksgiving. He’ll provide interior depth against the Colts.
  • CAR Guard #60
    Titans waived C Kevin Matthews.
Matthews had yet to be active since returning to the Titans in Week 11. Familiar with the Titans’ system, he could be back later this season.
  • CAR Guard #60
    Titans signed G/C Kevin Matthews.
Matthews spent 2010-12 with the Titans, making 17 appearances and three starts. He’ll provide depth along the interior line.
