The promising community college project should still have a good chance to make the Bucs in training camp. He’s using the time to learn Jon Gruden’s massive playbook.

The fifth-round rookie pick out of Pearl River Community College has been compared to a wild horse that could be a stallion by head coach Jon Gruden. Brackins should make the team as a special teams player and a reserve to WRs Michael Clayton, Joey Galloway and Ike Hilliard.

''We took Larry off the PUP list and now he’s on the KOP -- kind of able to perform,’' coach Jon Gruden said.

Brackins was last with the Philadelphia Soul, where Tony Graziani was his QB and CB Dee Webb his teammate.

Ball was prolific at New Hampshire, but may be too slow to run with the big boys. It appears David Clowney (collarbone) will stay on the roster.

The comunity college project was a fifth-round pick in last year’s Draft. He has great size and speed but is still very raw. Other interesting futures contracts went to WR Paris Warren, who has a similar profile, WR J.R. Russell, and QB Jared Allen.

Tampa took the trio late in the draft and they mostly spent the year on the practice squad. Tampa probably has Edell Shepherd and Ike Hilliard slotted to make the roster, but there is room for a second-year player to make a leap.

Pearl River does it again. Many thought this kid would have been a second rounder if he could get his academics fixed enough to play D1 football. He’ll fit right in on the Bucs.

Brackins was drafted as a fifth-round project in 2005.

Brackins is not expected to have fantasy value any time in the near future.
