Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times hears the “clock is ticking” for the Ravens to sign free agent WR Malcom Floyd.
The Ravens presumably have an offer out to Floyd’s agent, who was asking for the moon early in free agency. Floyd’s decision could turn out to have major repercussions for the Ravens’ offense, as the fallback plan appears to be re-signing a swiftly declining Derrick Mason while hoping raw rookie Torrey Smith (hamstring) is ready to make an early-season impact. Per Wilson, Floyd’s other suitors are the Vikings, Cardinals, Panthers, and Raiders.
  • LV Defensive Back #28
Chargers QB Philip Rivers has a history of targeting wide receivers covered by CB Nnamdi Asomugha.
Rivers has been one of the few quarterbacks unfazed by Asomugha’s presence. Over their last three meetings, he’s shown no hesitation throwing the ball to Asomugha’s side of the field, and will seemingly play with the same mindset when the two square off again Sunday. Malcolm Floyd is a decent WR2 play this week.
  • LAC Wide Receiver #80
Malcom Floyd did not return after leaving Sunday’s game with a second-quarter groin injury.
Details are scant, but it’s usually an ominous sign for an injured player’s status the next week when he doesn’t return in the previous one. Floyd has five catches for 104 yards on the young season. San Diego hosts Kansas City next.
  • LAC Wide Receiver #80
Malcom Floyd caught two passes for 28 yards in Sunday’s win over the Chiefs.
Floyd appeared to be on a limited snap count due to his groin injury, but still managed five targets. He’s a weak option when at 100 percent and shouldn’t be on your radar until he resumes practicing in full. Floyd had just seven catches for 132 yards through three games this season.
  • LAC Wide Receiver #80
Malcom Floyd (groin) is active for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs.
It’s a major surprise as Floyd was listed as doubtful and Chargers’ beat writers were virtually certain the No. 2 wideout would sit. With Antonio Gates (foot) sidelined, Floyd now projects to see plenty of targets. Note that Vincent Brown is active as well.
  • LAC Wide Receiver #80
Malcom Floyd (groin) was held out of Chargers practice again on Thursday.
The Chargers pushed Floyd back last week even though he was listed as doubtful. It’s hardly a positive sign that he’s yet to practice this week. He won’t be a fantasy option against the Dolphins even if he does play Sunday.
  • FA Wide Receiver #83
According to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune, there is “legit concern” over Vincent Jackson (abdomen) and Malcom Floyd (groin) after they missed practice the past two days.
The Chargers are optimistic that both receivers will play Sunday against the Dolphins, but owners will want to make sure to check V-Jax’s practice status late Friday afternoon. Coach Norv Turner admitted that both players “couldn’t have practiced today if we wanted them to.” Turner does expect them to return to limited practices on Friday, in which case Jackson should be kept in fantasy lineups as a WR2.
  • LAC Wide Receiver #80
Malcom Floyd (questionable, groin) returned to Chargers practice in full Friday.
After playing about two dozen snaps in Week 3, Floyd was given Wednesday and Thursday’s practices off. He’s expected to be available against the Dolphins.
  • LAC Wide Receiver #80
Malcom Floyd caught three passes for 100 yards and a touchdown in Sunday’s win over the Broncos.
Floyd benefited from extra attention being paid to Vincent Jackson. With the safety biting on V-Jax’s crossing route in the second quarter, Floyd got open behind the defense for a 42-yard touchdown. He also didn’t see any of Champ Bailey all day. But with a bye on deck and the Jets after that, Floyd won’t be a great waiver option.
  • LAC Wide Receiver #80
Malcom Floyd (hip) missed his second straight practice Thursday.
As usual, Floyd’s status is up in the air. However, he is believed to have escaped Monday’s loss to the Chiefs without worsening his hip injury, and there’s a good chance he’ll return to Chargers practice Friday before being listed as questionable on the injury report. For now, you can tentatively expect to have him as a WR3 against the Packers.
