Brunell was also reportedly drawing interest from the Jaguars. The 50-year-old has never served as a coach, spending some of the first 10 years of his retirement working in media, where he famously cried on ESPN over Tom Brady’s alleged role in “Deflategate.” That kind of passion will play on Dan Campbell’s fired-up coaching staff. The initial problem for Brunell is that he doesn’t know which quarterback he will be coaching with Matthew Stafford likely on the way out. Brunell will have 18 years of playing experience to draw on, but the game has changed a lot during his decade away.

After letting Keenan McCardell leave for the Vikings, it might not be a bad idea for head coach Urban Meyer to hire a Jacksonville legend like Brunell. The three-time Pro Bowler who made a few playoff runs with the Jaguars in the 90s would work with presumed No. 1 draft pick Trevor Lawrence.

If Brunell gets back on the field today, he’ll have a shot at starting Monday night’s game. Brunell and Patrick Ramsey remain poor fantasy options, no matter who starts.

He’s improving and increased his chances to play greatly. Joe Gibbs may not name a starter until game-time, or may not name one at all.

Coach Gibbs is keeping his options open and says the team is taking it “one day at a time.” But Patrick Ramsey should be the guy.

Brunell has looked terrible, but Patrick Ramsey isn’t an inspiring option. At least he didn’t get a monster signing bonus, though.

Brunell keeps playing barely well enough to keep his job. Opponents, however, have dared Brunell to beat them deep. He hasn’t been able to yet and his accuracy has struggled.

Brunell hasn’t completed a pass longer than 23 yards since Week 4. Coach Gibbs must really not trust Patrick Ramsey.

He’ll backup Patrick Ramsey. It will be cheaper to release Brunell after next season.

GM Bruce Allen says they need a quarterback because Tulane alum Shaun King is an unrestricted free agent. The Bucs could offer Keyshawn Johnson for Brunell.
