    Chargers waived WR Joe Reed.
Other notable cuts for the Chargers included defensive back Mark Webb and fullback Gabe Nabers. LA took Reed in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Billed as an offensive weapon, Reed never found a consistent role with the team. He served as the team’s primary kick returner as a rookie but was waived before the season started last year. Reed will likely end up on LA’s practice squad.

  • FA Running Back #34
Chargers signed sixth-round RB Larry Rountree to a four-year contract.
Rountree was a four-year contributor at Missouri, finishing his career behind only Brad Smith with 3,720 yards (5.0 per carry) and 40 touchdowns. He joins a crowded backfield with the Chargers, where he’ll compete for a roster spot as the No. 4 running back. Rountree has a similar profile to both Joshua Kelley and contract-year RB Justin Jackson, who he’ll likely replace in 2022. The Chargers also signed fifth-round OG Brenden Jaimes, sixth-round LB Nick Niemann, and seventh-round DB Mark Webb to rookie contracts.

  • LAC Safety #29
Chargers selected Georgia S Mark Webb with the No. 241 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Webb, a former four star receiver prospect, moved into Georgia’s starting lineup in nine of 14 games during his junior season (46 tackles, three for loss, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles). He started three of eight games Georgia played in 2020, logging 21 tackles, one interception, and two pass breakups. Webb, who had an 82nd percentile burst score at his pro day, played mostly as a big nickel corner at Georgia. He’s unlikely to continue that role with the Chargers. Webb, 22, will likely be a special teamer in the pros. He referred to himself as “Mr. Everything” in a post-draft interview.
