Eagles signed RB Martell Mallett, rookie of the year in the CFL with the BC Lions.
Mallett, a former star at Arkansas Pine-Bluff, rushed for a franchise record 213 yards against the Montreal Alouettes in early September. His receiving ability will be a good fit in Eagles coach Andy Reid’s offense if he makes the 2010 roster. With Brian Westbrook a longshot to return in 2010, Mallett will offer depth behind LeSean McCoy and Eldra Buckley.

Eagles waived RB Martell Mallett, CB David Pender, CB Geoff Pope, DT Boo Robinson, and S Anthony Scirrotto.
The exodus of former CFL stars continues. Mallett was Canada’s rookie of the year with the Montreal Alouettes in 2009, but he was never a good bet to stick as a third-down back with the Eagles. Pope saw action in an injury-depleted Philly secondary late last season.
  • Giants signed OL Ike Ndukwe, RB Martell Mallet, and DE Ayanga Okpokowuruk to reserve/future contracts.
Ndukwe started 18 games with the Ravens, Dolpins, and Chiefs from 2007-09 before falling out of the league in 2010. He’ll fight for a backup spot this offseason. Mallet, a former CFL star, spent time on the Eagles’ and Browns’ practice squads in 2010.

    Eagles re-signed RB Martell Mallett.
Mallett was just waived yesterday once J.J. Arrington came aboard, but the Eagles apparently changed their minds. Regardless, Mallett is a long shot to make the team.

Eagles signed RB Martell Mallett, DT Jeff Owens, C Dallas Reynolds, C A.Q. Shipley, and WR Chad Hall to the practice squad.
Hall had an outside shot at the active roster before putting the ball on the ground in preseason. Mallett will act as the No. 5 ball-carrying option for now, behind LeSean McCoy, Mike Bell, Leonard Weaver, and Eldra Buckley.

Beat writer Jeff McLane confirms that sixth-round rookie RB Charles Scott has not stood out at all during camp.
This confirms earlier predictions that Scott is unlikely to make the final roster. McLane even speculates that the Eagles may choose to keep CFL stud Martell Mallett on the practice squad over Scott.

    Eagles waived RB Martell Mallett.
The CFL’s 2009 rookie of the year with the Montreal Alouettes lost his roster spot to J.J. Arrington, who offers a similar skill-set with superior talent.

    Giants waived/injured RB Martell Mallett.
The former CFL star had no chance to make a Giants roster that is once again deep at tailback.
