Marquand Manuel ran as the Lions’ first-team strong safety at the team’s first post-draft minicamp.
Marvin White was No. 2 on the depth chart, and Daniel Bullocks ran with the third team. The trio must have failed to impress because C.C. Brown was signed right after the minicamp. All four safeties are on the roster bubble.
  • CIN Defensive Back
Bengals agreed to terms with fourth-round safety Marvin White on a four-year contract.
White has good athleticism and excellent ball skills. The former TCU Horned Frog needs to clean up his technique, but has long-term starting potential.
  • FA Defensive Back #41
Bengals FS Madieu Williams will likely be “questionable” for Saturday’s game.
Williams didn’t practice on Tuesday as he continues to rehab a thigh contusion. Rookie Marvin White would likely see another start in his absence, but don’t go rushing to start 49ers QB Shaun Hill.

  • FA Defensive Back #41
Bengals FS Madieu Williams is expected to leave the team in free agency this offseason.
Marvin White, who only recently passed seventh-round pick Chinedum Ndukwe on the depth chart, is reportedly his heir apparent. Williams is one of the better IDP free safeties around, but has been inconsistent on the field.
  • FA Defensive Back #41
Bengals FS Madieu Williams (thigh) is expected to be inactive Sunday.
He didn’t practice all week. The Bengals will likely go with rookie Marvin White in center field against St. Louis, which is good news for Marc Bulger.
  • FA Defensive Back #41
Bengals starting FS Madieu Williams and starting SS Dexter Jackson did not practice on Friday.
Williams is listed as doubtful with a sore quadriceps, and Jackson is suffering from a calf injury. The starting duo would be replaced by rookies Marvin White and Chinedum Ndukwe, which would make a nice matchup for Derek Anderson even better.
  • CIN Defensive Back
Bengals FS Marvin White (ACL surgery) received a positive update from Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham last month.
“No setbacks,” White confirmed. He’s due back on the practice field in late June, but has likely lost his starting job to $10 million man Chris Crocker.
  • CIN Defensive Back
Cowboys claimed S Marvin White off waivers from the Bengals.
White, 25, has starting experience at free safety and can contribute on special teams. He won’t be a major threat to Gerald Sensabaugh or Ken Hamlin.
  • CIN Defensive Back
Lions claimed S Marvin White off waivers from the Cowboys.
Dallas was intending to re-sign White because of Gerald Sensabaugh’s thumb injury, but Detroit got him first. He’ll replace Kalvin Pearson on special teams. Pearson suffered an undisclosed injury in Sunday’s loss to Chicago.
