ESPN’s John Keim believes Commanders OL Nick Allegretti could compete for the starting job at center.
The Commanders lost last year’s starting center, Tyler Biadasz, in free agency. He signed with the Chargers. Allegretti has played eight games at center in his seven-year career. He played center and right guard for the Commanders last year, earning a 44.3 PFF offense grade. Keim believes this is a position to watch. We agree. Bringing in outside help seems likely.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports the Commanders have signed OL Nick Allegretti to a new two-year contract.
Allegretti was set to enter the final year of a three-year deal he signed in 2024. Now, the veteran guard and three-time Super Bowl champ will remain under contract with the Commanders through the 2027 season. Allegretti played primarily as a backup last season, starting four of the 16 games he appeared in. That said, he made two starts at center and with the recent release of Tyler Biadasz, it’s possible Allegretti could slot in as the full-time center for the Commanders in 2026.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reports the Commanders are open to dealing OLs Andrew Wylie and Nick Allegretti.
According to Schultz, Wylie and Allegretti are one of “several players” the 3-6 Commanders are open to dealing. Wylie first joined the Commanders in 2023 and has started four games this season at right guard, while Allegretti, who started the first two games at right guard, hasn’t taken an offensive snap since Week 4. Wylie is on an expiring contract, and Allegretti’s deal ends after the 2026 season. Both players have plenty of starting experience and could serve as stopgaps for contenders looking to improve along the offensive line before the playoffs.

Commanders signed OG Nick Allegretti, formerly of the Chiefs, to a three-year, $16 million contract.
The deal includes $9 million guaranteed and Allegretti will reportedly start at left guard. A 2019 seventh-rounder, Allegretti has started more than three games in a season just one time. That was 2020. He did start this season’s AFC Championship Game and Super Bowl, playing through a torn UCL (Tommy John) in the “big game.” Still, going on 28, Allegretti is a mild risk at that salary and experience level. The Commanders are betting on his experience translating to the next step.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports Chiefs OG Nick Allegretti suffered a torn UCL his elbow in the team’s Super Bowl win over the 49ers.
Allegretti played on all 79 of the Chiefs’ offensive snaps despite suffering his injury in the second quarter. The five-year vet was already filling in for Joe Thuney, who was unable to play due to a pectoral injury and would have forced the Chiefs to play their third-string guard if he was unable to return. It was a Herculean effort from Allegretti, who was drafted by the Chiefs in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Allegretti will presumably undergo surgery in the coming offseason.

Chiefs selected Illinois OG Nick Allegretti with the No. 216 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
An undersized interior blocker whose grit flashes more on tape than his athleticism, Davis admittedly struggles in zone-blocking schemes that require middle linemen to flow wide. His success with the Chiefs is tied to his development as a pure utility downhill road grater.

According to Draft Analyst’s Tony Pauline, Illinois OL Nicholas Allegretti met with the Ravens and Patriots during Illinois Pro Day.
There was some surprise expressed when Allegretti (6'4/310), who by most accounts performed well at the East-West Shrine Game, was not invited to the NFL Scouting Combine. His positional versatility, as he can be used at either center or guard, helps his draft stock but the athletic testing numbers from Pro Day will be important as well. According to Pauline, Allegretti recorded a vertical jump of 29 inches but the other testing numbers have yet to be released. Allegretti projects to be a late-round draft pick.

NFL Media’s Lance Zierlein writes that Illinois OL Nicholas Allegretti “size and position flexibility [will help] increase his chances of snagging a roster spot at some point over the next couple of seasons.”
Allegretti (6'4/326) is a whip-smart lineman with experience at both guard and center. While Zierlein sees this versatility as helpful for his pro prospects, the analyst notes that the Illinois standout “did his job but lacked tape that really helped him to stand out.” If Allegretti is to make the draft proper, it will be as a late Day 3 selection. He did not receive an invitation to the NFL Scouting Combine.

Illinois redshirt senior OL Nicholas Allegretti accepted an invitation to the East-West Shrine Game.
Allegretti is viewed as the best offensive lineman on the Illini, and at 6-foot-4, 320-pounds, he has NFL size. The issues stem from a perceived lack of athleticism, and that’s something scouts will certainly be watching at the event this January.
