Jamie Gillian will likely be ready to return this week against the Panthers. The Giants also waived ST/DB Nick McCloud.

The Giants lack depth in the secondary and it currently appears as if the three-year veteran will get a shot at a starting perimeter cornerback role this season. McCloud has appeared in 33 games for New York, 11 of which have been starts, amassing 71 tackles and nine pass defenses during that time.

McCloud was a senior on the NC State club in 2019, but a knee injury suffered in the opener against Eastern Carolina kept him out for the remainder of the season. He’ll be able to count that season as a redshirt season, and now will finish his collegiate career with the Fighting Irish. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound cornerback started 11 games in 2018 with two interceptions and eight passes broken up, so this is a productive player that has a chance to earn immediate playing time for Notre Dame. He’s also eligible to do so immediately since he’s leaving with his degree.

McCloud (6'1/190) was injured in NC State’s season opening game against Eastern Carolina University and was out for the rest of the year. In 2018 he started 11 games recording 51 tackles, eight PBU, two interceptions and a fumble recovery. He received a redshirt for this year and will be immediately eligible to play for his new school in 2020.
