The 49ers worked out running backs Nyheim Miller-Hines and Zamir White on Monday, according to the NFL’s personnel notice. They also hosted running back Blake Watson on a visit.
Starter Christian McCaffrey sat out Monday’s practice with tightness. Jordan James, Kaelon Black and Isaac Guerendo are also sidelined.
Patrick Taylor Jr., Sincere McCormick and Khalil Herbert are the only healthy backs on the roster.
That’s why it seems likely the 49ers will sign at least one of the running backs they had at the team facility, with a joint practice with the Titans on Tuesday and a preseason game Thursday.
Miller-Hines, 29, spent time with the Chargers and Saints last season but had only three touches. He missed the 2023 and 2024 seasons after a jet ski accident left him with a torn ACL and MCL.
A fourth-round pick of Indianapolis in 2018, Miller-Hines has 1,200 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns in eight NFL seasons.
White, 26, entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick of the Raiders in 2022. He had only 12 carries in six games with the Raiders last season.
He has 736 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns in four seasons.
Watson, 26, was an undrafted free agent in 2024 and played two games for the Broncos as a rookie. He had four carries for 10 yards, while playing 11 offensive snaps and seven on special teams.
He was on the Titans’ practice squad last season before going on the practice squad injured reserve. Watson signed a futures deal with the Titans, who cut him April 30.
