The circumstances suggest there’s something more to the story regarding the termination of Bills defensive line coach Karl Dunbar. The reality appears to be that there’s nothing more to the story.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the departure came from no incident or event or behavioral problem. It was a normal, run-of-the-mill coaching change.
But for the timing.
The bad news for Dunbar is that all other seats are filled. The good news is that Dunbar has two years left under contract, giving him plenty of security. The best news is that he can now join a team at a reduced rate, with the Bills picking up the difference for the next two years.
It’s still unknown who will replace Dunbar as the defensive line coach. Jeff Weeks serves as the team’s assistant defensive line coach.
Back to the timing. The delayed decision seems to confirm the notion that coach Rex Ryan is feeling plenty of pressure entering his second year with the organization. The pressure could be making his trigger finger a little itchy. Which could make the 2016 Bills an interesting team to keep an eye on.
