Wide receiver Alshon Jeffery trained in Florida over the last couple of months instead of joining the Bears at their voluntary workouts in Chicago, but his absence won’t extend through this week’s mandatory minicamp.
The Bears announced that Jeffery reported to the team’s facility on Monday.
“I feel great to be back with my teammates and I look forward to competing,” Jeffery said.
Jeffery has signed the franchise tender the Bears gave him at the start of the offseason, leaving him set to make $14.6 million if he plays out the year under the tag. Jeffery is eligible to sign a longer deal with the Bears through July 15, but the most recent reports on that front are that a multi-year agreement is unlikely.
Those landscapes can change as the deadline draws closer, although Jeffery’s injury-plagued 2015 season may leave the Bears with a desire to see him remain healthy before entering into a longer relationship.
