Andre Gurode may not start for Cowboys

We have more proof that Pro Bowl nominations are often ridiculous, and NFL Network’s “Top 100" list often badly misfired.

Cowboys center Andre Gurode may not make the Cowboys starting lineup, despite making the Pro Bowl and ranking No. 57 on NFLN’s list last year.

This isn’t a huge shock because Gurode’s play was uniformly described as sub-mediocre in 2010 and he’s coming off knee surgery. He could lose his job to second year undrafted player Phil Costa.

Coach Jason Garrett confirmed Costa is competing to start. Costa and Gurode have been splitting first team reps.

“We want to create competitive situations throughout our football team. It’s really why we don’t talk about starters,” Garrett said via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Gurode is due $5.5 million this year. It wouldn’t shock us following this news if he’s cut or traded for a late-round pick.
