Andy Reid thinks Jamaal Charles getting knee checked “a positive thing”

There’s a reasonable concern when a star player coming back from an injury has to get the affected part re-examined.

But Chiefs coach Andy Reid said it’s not necessarily a cause for alarm that running back Jamaal Charles went to see Dr. James Andrews, as he continues to gradually work his way back from last year’s torn ACL.

I think it’s a positive thing,” Reid said, via Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star. “He’s been checking with Dr. Andrews. This person has done his surgery, which this isn’t uncommon. Let’s just figure out what it is and go from there.“He had a little swelling in it, so let’s figure out what it is.”

Charles began to play a bigger role in recent weeks, only to see that diminish as he experienced knee swelling. He played 15 snaps against the Raiders on Oct. 16, but just two the following week against the Saints and he missed last week’s game.

The Chiefs have kept things going in his absence thanks to Spencer Ware and a deep running back room, but some injuries there forced them to improvise last week. If nothing else, they could always bring Knile Davis back, since the Packers cut him already.
