Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib said he deserved discipline from the league for poking Colts tight end Dwayne Allen in the eye during Sunday’s loss, but that he didn’t deserve to be suspended for what he termed an “honest mistake.”
The NFL disagreed with that on Monday when they suspended Talib for one game and an appeals officer for the league disagreed with that on Tuesday when Talib tried to get the punishment overturned.
Mike Klis of 9News in Denver reports that Talib’s suspension was upheld on Tuesday, which means Talib will have to sit out Sunday’s game against the Chiefs. He’ll also forfeit a game check of over $350,000 as a result of what was a costly eye poke even before the NFL weighed in. Talib’s penalty gave the Colts a first down that they used to run out the clock at the end of the fourth quarter of their 27-24 victory.
Klis reports that Bradley Roby will start in Talib’s place with Kayvon Webster seeing increased time as well. Talib will be eligible to rejoin the team on Monday.
