As expected, Fitzpatrick atop Jets QB depth chart

Ryan Fitzpatrick has quickly reemerged as the Jets leader after his protracted contract negotiation with the team. Mike Florio debates whether or not it will hurt his regular season performances.

The Jets released an unofficial depth chart Monday, as all 32 teams will eventually do, and it didn’t include many surprises.

As expected, Ryan Fitzpatrick was listed as the starting quarterback.

Geno Smith is listed at No. 2. Bryce Petty is listed as No. 3, and rookie Christian Hackenberg is listed as No. 4.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see all four play, in that order, in Thursday’s preseason opener vs. the Jaguars. Eventually the Jets are probably going to either trade or release Smith or Petty, and preseason play will probably be a key evaluation point -- both for the Jets and other teams.
