It’s not like anybody watching the Jets tonight will be doing so for anything but the soap opera effect, but there will be at least a little bit of football played by the first teamers as the Jets play in Detroit.
As expected, new Jets coach Todd Bowles will hold out defensive end Mo Wilkerson (hamstring) and start first-round pick Leonard Williams in his place.
Ryan Fitzpatrick starts at quarterback in place of Geno Smith, who’s hospitalized while recovering from surgery to repair the broken jaw he suffered after being punched in the locker room on Tuesday. Suddenly, the one or two series Fitzpatrick and the starting offense will play tonight become much more interesting than they would have otherwise been.
