The Eagles took care of one of their own Monday, signing slot receiver Jason Avant to a five-year contract.

Avant was a restricted free agent, but the deal ensures he won’t have to worry about the uncertainties of the uncapped year and possible lockout next year.

The fourth-year pro has steadily improved in his career, catching a career high 41 passes last season.

Once a position of ridicule in Philadelphia, the Eagles have one of the youngest and most stable groups in the league. DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, and Avant all should be catching passes for the Eagles for a long time.

(Now we just need to figure out who will be throwing them the ball.)
