Bears shuffle their roster after opening win

The Bears got their season off on the right foot with a 41-21 win over the Colts on Sunday, but that didn’t stop them from making a few changes to their roster on Monday.

They announced Monday that they have signed veteran tackle Jonathan Scott to a contract. Scott was released by both the Steelers and the Lions this summer before landing in Chicago. He started 14 games for the Steelers over the last two years and also saw time as a starter for the Bills after his first departure from the Lions, who took him in the fifth round of the 2006 draft.

Scott will provide depth behind starting tackles J’Marcus Webb and Gabe Carimi. By waiting to sign him until Monday, the Bears do not have to guarantee the vested veteran’s entire contract for the season. We’ll likely see more deals like this in the coming days as teams tweak their roster to take advantage of the rule.

The Bears waived punter Ryan Quigley to make room for Scott on the roster and they also announced that they have reinstated defensive tackle Nate Collins to the active roster. Collins served a one-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy in Week One.
