When the Bears lost to the Dolphins in Week Seven, there was a tumultuous response.
Wide receiver Brandon Marshall responded with a long rant about how such results were unacceptable and called out his teammates for making the same kinds of mistakes over and over again and there were reports of other anger spouting to the surface in the team’s locker room. Things only got worse in Sunday’s 51-23 loss to the Patriots, which suggests that ranting and raving wasn’t the answer and may explain why the Bears didn’t blow up in response this time.
They stressed togetherness instead. Defensive end Willie Young said that he didn’t think anyone on the team had their confidence shaken by the loss and stressed that the team needs to continue working together as they head into the bye week.
“We just got to keep everything together,” Young said, via the Chicago Sun-Times. “It’s not time to blow your top yet. I sound like a broken record, but we got to keep everything together, continue to work together.”
For his part, Marshall said, via the Associated Press, that it’s “going to be tough” to turn things around after a 3-5 first half of the season. It’s less volatile, but no less true than when he called the team’s previous effort unacceptable.
