Ben Roethlisberger was asked at Super Bowl Media Day whether he felt any anxiety about potentially facing hostile questions about his personal life and the sexual assault accusations that led to a four-game suspension at the start of the season.
“I don’t know about anxiety,” Roethlisberger said. “I tried to be prepared.”
As it turned out, Roethlisberger didn’t need to be prepared for much other than the usual Media Day questions: So far he has faced a mostly friendly press corps, and he’s had an easy time of it: We’ve seen Roethlisberger joke around, laugh, and talk about how The T Ocho Show is some of his favorite television.
From all appearances, Roethlisberger is poised to make it through Media Day -- and through the whole Super Bowl week -- with more people talking about his potential to earn his third Super Bowl ring than talking about his status as a man who has been accused of sexually assaulting two different women.
Roger Goodell probably would have cringed at the thought of this five months ago, but Roethlisberger is the player getting the most attention during Super Bowl week. And most of that attention is positive.
