Even though the odds of Zach Mettenberger actually helping another team are astronomically low, there were actually multiple teams interested in him trying.

Mettenberger was claimed by the Chargers yesterday, which makes sense given his ties with offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt from his days as Titans coach.

But according to Field Yates of ESPN, the Giants and Bengals also put in claims for Mettenberger.

The Giants spent a fourth-round pick in 2013 on Ryan Nassib, and brought B.J. Daniels in as their third, giving them an odd lot of quarterbacks behind Eli Manning.

But the Bengals may be even more interesting. They’ve insisted that Andy Dalton’s backup A.J. McCarron isn’t available in trade, but Mettenberger would have at least presented a more experienced option if they ever decided to change their mind.

Regardless, he’s a Charger now, and with a little luck, they’ll never have to turn to him.
