Here’s one that’s nearly as surprising as the Eagles’ acquisition of cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha.
The Bengals have signed quarterback Jordan Palmer to a new contract.
The younger brother of Carson Palmer, who currently wants out of Cincinnati and whom owner Mike Brown chided earlier this week for refusing to honor his “commitment” to the team, Jordan Palmer was a restricted free agent.
It was widely believed that Carson’s brother was signed as a courtesy to the team’s former franchise quarterback. Instead, Jordan will continue to have a job with the team, albeit behind Bruce Gradkowski and Andy Dalton, not necessarily in that order.
The Bengals also announced new deals with three other restricted free agents: center Kyle Cook, guard Nate Livings, and tackle Dennis Roland. The Bengals inked five exclusive-rights players: receiver Quan Cosby, long snapper/tight end Clark Harris, safety Tom Nelson, running back Cedric Peerman, and linebacker Dan Skuta. They cut receiver Shay Hodge and kicker Clint Stitser.
